About
the committee:
The Queens' May Ball committee is made up of 15 people spanning from
first years to fellows. We aim to be representative the views of the college
as a whole, and strive to organise a ball that will appeal to the largest
cross-section of people possible.
In most cases, each member of the committee is responsible for
their 'department'. However, for the bigger jobs, we have two people
responsible. These roles are always taken by at least one first
year. This (combined with the fellows' involvment) allows some continuity
from one ball to the next
How we got on the committee:
The President of Queens' May Ball is traditionally nominated by the
previous committee. The Senior Treasurer is appointed by the Governing
Body of the college. Everyone else was appointed by a panel consisting
of the President, the Senior Treasurer, and a suitable cross section of
previous committee members. We advertise and hold interviews for each
position. The competition is usually quite fierce.
Why we do it:
We don't get paid for being on the committee - we attend the Ball, but
we have to work once we're there. Hopefully, we enjoy ourselves along
the way, and, of course, it looks good on your CV. Having all of your
friends pat you on the back afterwards and tell you how much they enjoyed
themselves is also an extremely rewarding experience!
